Gertha Mae (Gert) was born to the late Matthew and Lillie Hull on September 11, 1933 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

Gertha married Robert Dunn in 1950. Their union, cut short by his untimely death, yielded a daughter, Patti Dunn.

Gertha married Lawrence Moore Jr. in 1964 enjoying 37 years until his death in 2001.  They operated a group home for mental patients for over 16 years and Ida’s Sunshine Nursery School for over 18 years.  They were foster parents to many children, which led to them adopting two boys, Lamont and Timothy Moore.

Gertha also enjoyed her pet dogs, gardening and entertaining friends and relatives. She was known as an excellent cook, a meticulous homemaker, and a lady whose eye for fashion found expression in both wardrobe — dressing in suits with matching hats and home furnishing.

Gertha died March 25, 2024 after a long illness. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence and son, Shelton.  She was also predeceased by parents, sisters Bishop Daisy Sims, Evelyn Lindsey, Lorena Long, Mattie Harris, Ida Boone, and Delia Copeland; and brothers, Matthew (MH), Willie, Robert, and Thurmond (Bo) Hull.

Gertha leaves to mourn two daughters, Patti Dunn and Linda Elder (William); sons Larry, Lamont and Timothy; sisters Teresa Youngblood and Lois Jackson; grandchildren, Robert Dunn, Dachelle Bufford, Theresa Moore, Patrice Elder, Tiffany Benison (Dewayne), Quenton Moore, Miesha Moore, Timothy Jr., and Noah Powell; nine great grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, a special niece, Mary Kelly; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Family and friends will gather to remember Gertha on Friday, April 5, 2024, from 12:30-2:30p at E. F. Boyd & Son Funeral Home and Crematory, 25900 Emery Road [44128].
