Janice Taylor-Heard, dean at Tri-C's western campus, to lead venerable civil rights organization
The Urban League’s Board of Trustees elected a new chair of the board and seven new members at its meeting on February 25.
Janice Taylor-Heard, Ph.D., the dean of academic affairs at the western campus of Tri-C, is the new chair of the Urban League board. She succeeds Bennett Gaines of FirstEnergy.
Sharing the leadership duties will be Nicolette Jaworski, director of global affairs for AT&T.
Seven new trustees are joining the board, including India Birdsong, CEO of the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority; Michael Bowen, an associate attorney at Calfee Halter & Griswold LLC; Julia Dean, CPA, a manager with Ernst & Young; and Kathryn Hall, vice president for diversity and inclusion at JACK’s Entertainment.
Also joining the board are Christine Herrera, vice president at J. M. Smucker Company; Alan K. Nevel, a senior vice president with MetroHealth; and Augie Napoli, president and CEO of United Way of Greater Cleveland.
Monique Winston of WFG Lender Services and Patricia Ramsey of Fifth Third Bank continue as board secretary and treasurer, respectively.
Marsha Mockabee is president and CEO of the League's Cleveland chapter.
