The Woodmere Village administration has planned a month-long celebration to mark the community’s 80th anniversary. Founded November 18, 1944, spanning eight decades, Woodmere has transformed from a sleepy rural enclave into a community whose commercial and retail activity punches well above its weight.
The anniversary festivities will kick off Friday evening, November 15, with a concert by the jazz ensemble, Forecast, at the Garfield Memorial Church Pepper Pike Family Life Center, at 3650 Lander Rd [44124]. The event will begin at 6p with mingling and refreshments. Local television personality Sia Nyorker will serve as Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening’s program.
The celebration continues at noon on Monday, November 18 with a Cake & Punch Social at Woodmere Village Hall 27899 Chagrin Blvd, where guests will enjoy refreshments and share memories with neighbors and friends.
The Village’s 80th anniversary celebrations will extend into 2025, featuring activities that highlight Woodmere’s history and culture. Planned events include a Historical Panel Discussion at the Orange Branch of the Cuyahoga County Public Library, and a Pictorial Gallery Display showcasing Woodmere’s growth through the decades.
“The 80th anniversary is more than a milestone — it’s an opportunity to reflect on shared history and renewed commitment to making Woodmere an even greater place to live, work, and grow,” said Mayor Benjamin I. Holbert III. “We’re looking forward to honoring the past while embracing a bright and prosperous future for our Village.”
