Named one of Cleveland Magazine's "Most Interesting People of 2021," saxophonist, composer and educator Chris Coles brings his meditation on the 2015 Charleston church shooting to Tri-C Metro Campus Auditorium, 2809 Woodland Avenue (44115) on Nov. 14 at 7 p. Combining jazz, spoken word and movement, audience and performers share a musical reflection on issues of social justice, racial inequality and gun violence. Co-presented by the Local 4 Music Fund and Tri-C Performing Arts. Free admission, but please register. Admission is free, but reservations required. The documentary “Jodorowsky’s Dune,” an in-depth look at a movie version of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” that never happened, screens at Cleveland Cinematheque Sunday, November 14.

The latest imagining of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel “Dune” is in theaters now, offering a different take than the 1984 David Lynch version starring Kyle McLachlan and Sting. The documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune,” an in-depth look at a movie version of Herbert’s “Dune” that never happened. Created by Chilean-French auteur Alejandro Jodorowsky, the film screens at Cleveland Cinematheque, 11610 Euclid Avenue [44106] Sunday, November 14 at 6:30p.

 Jodorowsky’s version, conceived in the early 1970s, included concepts created by H.R. Giger (“Alien”), special effects by Dan O'Bannon, music by Pink Floyd, and a cast consisting of Orson Welles, Salvador Dali, Mick Jagger, and David Carradine.  General Admission is $10; $7 for members and patrons ages 25 and under. Masks required.

 

Adele gets personal in her upcoming CBS special, “Adele: One Night Only” Sunday, November 14.

In conjunction with the November 19 release of her newest album, “30,” CBS presents Adele: One Night Only,” a new primetime special on Grammy-winning artist Adele Sunday, November 14 at 8:30p. In addition to performances of new material and previous hits, the two-hour special will also feature an exclusive interview with Adele by Oprah Winfrey from her rose garden where she will discuss topics including the new album and the inspirations behind the songs, life after divorce, weight loss and raising her son. ‘30’ marks Adele’s first release of new material in six years.

 

The 9th Annual Maker Faire Cleveland takes place at Cleveland Public Library branches and the Great Lakes Science Center November 15-20.

9th Annual Maker Faire Cleveland – November 15-20

Beginning Monday, November 15, the Cleveland Public Library will host the 9th Annual Maker Faire Cleveland, featuring free family-friendly events at the Great Lakes Science Center, 601 Erieside Avenue [44114] and throughout the Library system. All activities will lead up to the Maker Faire Cleveland showcase featuring science fiction author Nnedi Okorafor on Saturday, November 20 at the Great Lakes Science Center from 6p – 9p.

Maker Faire celebrates innovation and provides hands-on, interactive fun of all ages. From engineers to artists to scientists and crafters, “Makers” will show off their gadgets and mind-blowing inventions. “Maker Faire Cleveland is the greatest show-and-tell on Earth and will bring together some of Cleveland’s most creative inventors and thinkers. Grammy-winning artist Gladys Knight comes to the MGM Northfield Park for one show Thursday, November 18.

10-time Grammy winner Gladys Knight performs at MGM Northfield Park Thursday, November 18 at 8p. This is the twice-rescheduled show from November 2020 and May 2021. Tickets range from $57-89. Doors open one hour before show time, but guests can enjoy the gaming floor and dining areas before doors. All seats are reserved. No cameras permitted.

 

R&B trio Tony! Toni! Tone! comes to the Tangier in Akron Saturday, November 20.

Tony! Toni! Tone! bring their soulful sounds to The Tangier in Akron (532 W. Market Street, 44303) Saturday, November 20 at 7p.  This is the rescheduled show from June 2020. Tickets range from $50-$70.  The Prime Rib Buffet can be included for an additional $35. Appetizers and drinks are available for purchase during the show. Recent reports state that original member Raphael Saddiq has returned to work on a reunion album, but no word on whether he’s a part of touring shows.

Nostalgic Tangier fans out there, take note: this is one of the final shows to be held at the storied venue.  The longtime Akron entertainment spot will close following a New Year’s Eve Finale concert on December 31. The building was purchased by the Lebron James Foundation to become House Three Thirty, an innovative, multi-use facility filled with resources for and by I PROMISE families.
