June 30, 1947 — January 19, 2026
Gale Susan Wright Brown was born on June 30, 1947, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the eldest of six children born to Raymond and Mary Elizabeth Wright.
From a young age Gale attended the Pentecostal Church of Christ, where she was a devoted and active member. She served as president of the church’s young people’s meetings and was known as a committed and enthusiastic teenager within the congregation.
Gale began working at an early age, and soon became known for her diligence, impeccable fashion sense of style, and thoughtful and generous by nature.
After graduating from Glenville HS in 1965, Gale headed to Central State University, where she pursued her passion as an art major. During her freshman year she met Robert Brown, a junior from Cleveland, and a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. After Robert graduated in June of 1968, Gale returned to Cleveland and earned certification in Portraiture from the Cleveland Institute of Art.
Gale and Robert married on March 28, 1970. Robert Sr. was employed with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and later earned Master’s degrees from both Case Western Reserve University and Cleveland State. Gale was employed as a clerk with the U.S. Navy Finance Department.
Their first child, Robert Brown II, was born December 31, 1971, followed later by daughters Angela Monique Brown, born April 5, 1976, and Kimberly Gale Brown, born August 15, 1978. All three children graduated from Warrensville Heights HS. Robert II earned his B.A. from Kent State University and served nine years in the U.S. Army. Angela and Kimberly each earned a B.S. from Central State. During their respective senior years, each was elected Miss Central State and appeared in Ebony magazine. All three earned a master’s degree.
Gale found her greatest joy in spending time with her family. She enjoyed lunch and dinner dates with family, watching movies, writing letters, mailing cards, and talking on the phone with loved ones.
Gale was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Wright. In addition to her husband Robert Sr., survivors include her mother, Mary Elizabeth Wright, 98; her siblings, Raymond (Linda) Wright, Carol (Clarence) Heater, Richard Wright, Jeffrey Wright, and Cheryl (Willie) Merritt; her children, Robert (Christina) Brown II, Angela (Terrell) Husband, and Kimberly Abdul Malik; and seven grandchildren, Bobbi, Theadis, Taylor, Nasim, Zoe, Noelle, and Zaire.
