Warren Campaign opens first Ohio office

Campaign picks MidTown location on Healthline

About 100 well-wishers and volunteers joined a few campaign staffers in MidTown yesterday evening for the official opening of the Elizabeth Warren for President campaign office for northeast Ohio.

Warren, a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, is a leading contender to win the Democratic Party nomination next year. The nominee will be selected at the Party’s convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin next July.

The office is located on the RTA Healthline at 4415 Euclid, which seems appropriate given that healthcare expansion is a cornerstone of the candidate’s platform.

The opening was decidedly low key, as will be other office rollouts scheduled this week in Columbus and Cincinnati. The offices' initial focus will be to secure enough signatures to get Warren on the ballot for the Ohio primary on March 17, 2020.

A few current and former elected officials were noted in the crowd: South Euclid councilman Marty Gelfand, fresh off his election last week as Democratic Party city leader, showed up with several dozen signatures endorsing Warren’s candidacy. County Councilman Dale Miller,   University Heights mayor Michael Brennan and former county commissioner Mary Boyle were also present.

Three students from Shaker Heights HS were also among the attendees. One of them, a resident of Cleveland’s Ward 6, was overjoyed to learn that she will be eligible to vote in the primary, which coincides with her 18thbirthday, and quickly ran up front to register.

A signature feature of the campaign office is a large wall area containing 49 folders with Warren’s plans to address a host of issues that she wants her presidency to address.

Shaker Heights resident Anna Brichacek is state director for the campaign. Warren’s national campaign headquarters are in Boston. Brichacek will be based in the MidTown office.
