The Struggle Continues

The NAACP Ohio State Conference, as a civil rights organization long committed to the advancement of justice for all, joins the nation in breathing a collective sigh of relief.  We are grateful that honorable police stood on the side of justice and accountability.

The NAACP Ohio State Conference values the commitment to accountability demonstrated by all: the jury, witnesses, and the honorable police who stood on the side of justice. Justice has been served.

However, we cannot reflect on the Chauvin verdict without reflecting on the loss of the life of George Floyd and the countless other Black and Brown lives lost at the hands of police officers.

We cannot rest until sweeping police reform takes place in the state capital and cities in the State of Ohio.

We commend Attorney General Keith Ellison for taking a stand on the side of justice, and for his time in leading a successful prosecution for this murder.

The Ohio NAACP Ohio State Conference encourages civil rights leaders and local elected officials to hold police and law enforcement agencies accountable for their shocking and horrible acts of violence.

We seek continued prayers for the Floyd family, the witnesses who were traumatized and the Minneapolis Police Officers and community who were impacted by the careless action of some.

In Solidarity,

Tom Roberts, President of NAACP Ohio State Conference.
