Library Writers and Readers Series features Eddie Glaude, Jr. and Caroline Randall Williams – April 17
The Cleveland Public Library’s Writers and Readers lecture series continues Saturday, April 17 at noon via Zoom with acclaimed authors Eddie Glaude, Jr. and Caroline Randall Williams in candid conversation on civic education and engagement. Glaude is a Distinguished University Professor of African American Studies at Princeton University, but is likely better known as a TIME magazine columnist and MSNBC contributor on programs like Morning Joe and Deadline White House with Nicolle Wallace. He also regularly appears on Meet the Press. Williams is an award-winning poet, young adult novelist, and cookbook author as well as an activist, public intellectual, performance artist, and scholar. Dexter Davis artwork on display at William Busta Projects through April 17
The works of local artist Dexter Davis are on display at William Busta Projects, 15517 Waterloo Rd. [44110] through Saturday, April 17. Davis, a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art, has had several pieces of his artwork purchased by the Cleveland Museum of Art. Gallery hours are noon-5PM. Read more about Davis here.

‘Tri-C Classical Piano Series’ featuring Dan Tepfer – April 18
The final installment of Tri-C’s 2021 Classical Piano series takes place Sunday, April 18 at 2PM featuring French-American jazz pianist Dan Tepfer performing his interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s renowned Goldberg Variations. “Dan’s imaginative interpretation of Bach’s work brings new life to the classic through a modern lens,” said Emanuela Friscioni, director of Tri-C’s Classical Piano Series. “He brings the music into new territory in a way that is respectful, joyous, and a delight to experience.” This free, pre-recorded concert can be viewed on the Tri-C Performing Arts website.

The Songwriters Hall of Fame invites you to watch a virtual program featuring conversations with five songwriters nominated for Academy Awards this year. Cleveland Cinematheque Virtual Cinema – ‘Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts’ – Through May 6
This new nonfiction film brings to light the life and work of a remarkable, self-taught African American artist who was born into slavery in rural Alabama in 1853 and witnessed the Civil War, Reconstruction, Jim Crow segregation, and the Great Migration before dying in 1949. A sharecropper most of his life, Bill Traylor eventually moved to Montgomery where, between 1939 and 1942, he drew or painted over 1000 pictures of the Black experience. “Bill Traylor: Chasing Ghosts” can be viewed online through at least May 6, 2021. Screening fee: $12.
