‘Rhythms & Riffs: A Conversation with Orlando Watson’ at Karamu – April 29

As part of Karamu’s ‘Rhythms & Riffs’ series, lyricist and Cleveland native Orlando Watson will be featured in a virtual conversation Thursday, April 29 at 7PM and hosted by Daniel Gray Kontar, founder and executive artistic director of Twelve Literary Arts. Watson has performed with an array of musical greats, including Terrence Blanchard, Dominick Farinacci, and Latin Grammy winner Linda Briceno. His 2015 debut album “Everything’s Personal” reached No. 18 on the iTunes R&B Soul Charts, allowing him opportunities to serve as opening act on tours with Lalah Hathaway and Chantae Cann, respectively. Cleveland Play House’s Virtual Performances of ‘Electra/Orestes’ – April 23-25

“Electra/Orestes,” a merging of two classic works by Euripides, is a collaboration between the Cleveland Play House MFA Acting Program and Case Western Reserve University. Revolving around two siblings and a cursed family line, this is a memorable story of betrayal, loss, and revenge, exploring the roles of fate and free will.  Directed by Desdemona Chiang.  Tickets are $5 and the performance can be viewed on demand April 23-25.

Rhythms & Riffs is a virtual community program to celebrate Jazz Appreciation and Poetry month. This hour-long event celebrates the intersections of jazz, poetry, and the human experience. Free, but registration required.

 

CWRU Dance Department's ‘Imagatorium’ premieres May 2

The Department of Dance at Case Western Reserve University concludes its 2020-21 season with “Imagatorium,” on Sunday, May 2, featuring original works by second-year graduate students Mary-Elizabeth Fenn and Tingyu Xie, along with senior capstone choreographies by Zhaonian Li, Joel Kuebler Linebach, and Evangeline Robertshaw. “Imagatorium” will be available for viewing on the CWRU Department of Dance YouTube Channel.

 

Damon Wayans at Cleveland Improv – June 3-5
