Old School Soul Presents Midnight Star, Jan Marie and Hubbs Groove Saturday, June 26 at 7PM (Gates open at 6PM) at Lock 3’s Cleveland Clinic Stage in Akron, 200 South Main Street (44308). Admission is $15; $20 for reserved seating, and tickets can be purchased through Eventbrite.

Magnoliafest at Cleveland History Center – June 27
Magnoliafest, which kicked off last weekend for Juneteenth at the Cleveland History Center, continues Sunday, June 27 at noon with a book discussion/signing with Frank R. Ross, author of “African American Soul Dancing.” Ross is a Cleveland native and John Adams High School graduate, where he starred in track and field. The presentation will also include accomplished dancers from Baltimore, Cleveland, Detroit, and Chicago demonstrating a variety of recommended dances for academic programs. This event is included with Museum admission: $12.
At 7PM, there will be a virtual performance by the Linking Legacies Project, featuring pianist Dianna White-Gould, faculty member at the Dike School of the Arts; Chris Jenkins, violist and Associate Dean at Oberlin Conservatory; and tenor Matthew Jones – all of whom are faculty members at the Cleveland Music School Settlement. This event is free.

In conjunction with Black Music Month, the long-running PBS concert series “Austin City Limits” re-broadcast a 2019 episode featuring four-time Grammy winner Gary Clark, Jr. The hour-long concert is available for viewing through July 18 on the PBS website.

Mort Kunstler exhibit at Canton Museum of Art – Through July 3
There are less than two weeks left to catch the exhibit, “Mort Kunstler: The Godfather of Pulp Fiction Illustrators”, at the Canton Museum of Art (1001 Market Avenue N, 44702).
Organized by the Heckscher Museum of Art, the exhibit consists of more than 70 original drawings and paintings seen on a slew of American magazine covers during the 1950s and 60s.
Fun fact: Kunstler collaborated with author Mario Puzo in helping visually flesh out what would become “The Godfather” novel. Six of those illustrations are included in the exhibit. Admission: Adults $8; seniors $6; children 12 and under are free. Museum hours are 10AM-8PM Tuesday-Thursday, and 1-AM-5PM Friday-Sunday.

New Histories, New Futures at Transformer Station - June 26 through September 12
Opening Saturday, June 26 at the Transformer Station Gallery in Ohio City, is the exhibit, “New Histories, New Futures,” featuring the works of three contemporary artists: Johnny Coleman of Oberlin, Cleveland resident Antoine Washington and Kambui Olujimi of New York – and their engagement with historical revisionism, in regards to the Black family. Free. Guests are asked to reserve tickets in advance to prevent overcrowding. Gallery hours are Wednesday-Sunday 11AM-5PM.
