The kickoff to the Real Men Wear Pink campaign takes place Friday, October 15 from 5-8p at the Velvet Tango Room. 2095 Columbus Road (44113) in Ohio City. Local events promoter Arnold Hines serves as Ambassador for this event. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the American Cancer Society. Real Men Wear Pink gives men a leadership role in the fight against breast cancer. Community leaders around the nation use the power of pink to raise awareness and money for the American Cancer Society's breast cancer initiatives, including innovative research, patient services, and education around screenings and risk reduction.

Jazz saxophonist Eric Darius comes to The Tangier in Akron, 532 W. Market Street (44303) for one show Saturday, October 16 at 8:30p. Darius’ most recent single, “Summer Feelin’” was released in 2020. His latest album, “Breakin’ Thru” was released in 2018. Tickets range from $40-$55. This show was originally scheduled for November 13, 2020. Tickets purchased for the original date will be honored. The buffet option is not available for this performance.
The Word Church is hosting two giveaway events this weekend at Shaw High School and East Tech High School.
Word Church ‘Feed the 5,000 Weekend’ – October 16
The Word Church will host two “Feed the 5,000” outreach events on Saturday October 16. From 10a-Noon at Shaw High School, 15320 Euclid Avenue (44112) and from Noon-2p at East Tech High School, 2439 East 55 Street (44104). Vaccinations will be provided at Shaw High School by the Cuyahoga County Board of Health, and $100 gift cards will be provided to those receiving their first vaccination. Any remaining groceries will be distributed Sunday, October 17 following the Word Church’s 10:30a service at 18908 South Miles Road (44128).
Feed the 5,000 Weekend is an outreach event aimed at addressing hunger and other essential needs in the Greater Cleveland area where The Word Church will distribute boxes of groceries, hygiene items, and cooked meals to families across our community.
On October 17, Juneteenth Bike Rides will host a ride to the Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum in Ashtabula.
Juneteenth Freedom Bike Rides – October 17
Come join Juneteenth Freedom Rides Sunday, October 17 from 9a-2p for a bike ride to the Hubbard House Underground Railroad Museum in Ashtabula. The Hubbard House was built in 1841 by William and Katharine Hubbard, serving as the last stop on the Underground Railroad before securing safe passage across the lake to Canada. Unfortunately, the museum is temporarily closed.
The ride takes place along the paved Western Reserve Greenway Trail. There are 60-mile and 30-mile options. The routes have different starting points, so you are advised to call or text 216-302-8015 for more information. Registered riders should check the sponsor’s social media channels for updates in the event of cancellation due to inclement weather. Be sure to come equipped with a helmet, lights, and liquids for hydration.
It’s that time again. Great Lakes Brewery will celebrate the first pour of its popular Christmas Ale on Thursday, October 21.

Yeah, yeah, I know. We’re not even past Halloween yet, but when it comes to the return of Great Lakes’ Christmas Ale, there hardly seems to be a wrong time for a quaff or three. The brewpub, located at 2516 Market Avenue (44113), will open at 11a on Thursday, October 21 and has a day of festivities planned, including an 11:30a tapping of the first keg of Christmas Ale; beer-infused doughnuts from Brewnuts, DJ Red-I spinning classic holiday tunes from 5-9p, a visit from Krampus of Cleveland, and much more.
For the safety of staff and customers, proof of vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test administered within 72 hours of the event will be required upon entry for ALL guests.
