Mayor-elect is at Harvard this week

Cleveland Mayor-elect Justin Bibb is a Harvard man this week. He is in Cambridge MA participating in a seminar for newly elected mayors hosted by the Institute of Politics at Harvard Kennedy School. The event, a bi-annual collaboration with the U.S. Conference of Mayors, runs from Nov. 30-Dec. 2, 2021.

The focus of this year’s curriculum is on governance during a pandemic, jobs and economic development, leadership during crises, and public safety. Invitations are extended to incoming and recently elected mayors of U.S. cities with populations of 75,000 or more. Cincinnati Mayor-elect Aftab Pureval is also attending.

The program is billed as "a one-of-its kind program that offers practical advice and best practices from experts in public policy, media, the private sector, municipal governments and current and former mayors."

Seminar sessions are led by current and former mayors, scholars, and practitioners representing viewpoints across the political spectrum. The program aims to introduce new mayors to the skills mastered by big-city mayors who have met the challenges of governing in the complex environment of urban politics. Additionally, it provides mayors an early opportunity to build relationships with colleagues from across the country, as well as the opportunity to discuss common goals and challenges away from the pressures of city governance.

Bibb will be sworn in January 3.
