Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner Dr. Thomas Gilson has issued a public health alert this week, reporting that Cuyahoga County suffered at least 69 suspected overdose deaths in the month of March. Additionally, 13 overdose deaths have occurred in the first 5 days of April.
Toxicology testing has not yet confirmed which drug(s) have caused the recent spike. Currently, fentanyl and cocaine appear to be the most common drugs found in overdose deaths.
County officials are requesting that if you or anyone you know is actively using or recovering from opioid addiction, contact Project DAWN for information at 216.778.5677. Eligible program participants are given FREE naloxone kits – the opioid reversing antidote.
Additionally, the Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS) Board of Cuyahoga County provides a 24-hour crisis hotline at 216-623-6888.
