July 14, 1951-January 21, 2020
Geraldine loved working with young people.
Geraldine Calhoun was born July 14, 1951, in Cleveland, OH to Eugene and Anna Snow Calhoun (both deceased). She graduated from Glenville HS in 1970 and later and obtained a certificate in Business. Her work experience at Greyhound fueled her affinity for travel and she traveled frequently all over the country. In her later years Geraldine worked in the business/accounting office of the Cleveland Hts.-University Hts. Public Library until her retirement in 2010.
Geraldine loved working with young people. Mother to Kaylah Kyle, her "most precious accomplishment", Geraldine also devoted time to her nieces and nephews.
Noted for her fashion sense, she enjoyed shopping trips with family members and close friends. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family; she was close with all her siblings, especially her twin brother Jeremy.
In her teen years, Geraldine sang with the “Optimistics” youth choir conducted by her childhood friend, Karen “Cookie” Harris Jones (deceased). The choir performed at many area churches in Greater Cleveland. Singing remained a lifelong passion, along with dancing to jazz, soul, and R&B.
In addition to her daughter, Kaylah, Geraldine leaves to mourn her grandson, Tristan E. Johnson, sisters Harriet Young, Rosemary Lother [Calvin], Rebecca Calhoun, and Deborah James; brothers Roger, Jerry [Alyse], and Emanuel, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two siblings, Thomas Calhoun and Shahidah Haamid.
Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25 at 10 am at Calhoun Funeral Home [CFH], 23000 Rockside Rd., Bedford Hts. [44146]. Visitation will be Fri., Jan. 24 from 2-8 pm at CFH. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm.
