Beloved Reggae musician was active in recovery community

OBITUARY
David Hall Smeltz, "Papa Dave", 66 died on June 24, 2021 following a long battle with COVID 19 virus, surrounded by family at Select Health Fairhill.
Dave was born May 28, 1955 in Cleveland, Ohio. He attended Shaker Heights High School and went on to pursue his first love, reggae music. A music enthusiast, David traveled all over the world with his band, ITAL. After years of shows, he obtained his degree as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
A proud member of the sober community, Dave opened Clean House, Inc. to support the recovery community in the Cleveland area. He celebrated his 20th “soberversary” this past April.
Dave was a dedicated member of The Cleveland Buddhist Temple and found great solace in the Buddhist community.
Following his retirement Dave enjoyed playing music with The Smeltztones, and traveling to South Carolina to visit his daughters and friends.
Dave is survived by his two daughters, Shelbey Smeltz and partner Andrew Lasseter (Columbia, SC) and Kelsey Belton (Bryan) of Lugoff, SC, Aunt Audrey Hall (Virginia) and cousin Allison Hall (Georgia). He was preceded in death by his parents, Inez Hall Smeltz and Clayton Corbin Smeltz, and by his uncle, Bill Hall.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Clean House, Inc, 11910 Buckeye Rd., Cleveland, OH 44120 or The Salvation Army, 17625 Grovewood Ave., Cleveland, OH 44119.
Arrangements were made through Brown-Forward Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be scheduled in the coming months.
