The Cleveland National Air Show – September 4-6

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds are the featured act at the 2021 Cleveland National Air Show at Burke Lakefront Airport in downtown Cleveland Saturday, September 4 through Monday, September 6.   Other featured acts include the USA Golden Knights skydiving team, Dronewerx, the F-15 Eagle Flyby, the C-130 Hercules Demo and more! And, of course, announcer Danny Clisham. General Admission tickets are $35; $20 for kids ages 6-11; kids 5 and under are free.  Reserved Box Seats are $40.  Note: Remaining box seats tickets are singles.

Ledisi, Leela James at Akron Civic Theatre – September 6

Grammy-winning performer Ledisi brings her unique soul sounds to the Rubber City for one show at the Akron Civic Theatre, 182 S. Main St. (44308) Monday, September 6 at 7:30PM.  Tickets range from $29-$89.  Movie and TV buffs may recognize her from her portrayals of Mahalia Jackson and Patti Labelle in “Selma” and “American Soul,” respectively. Special guest is Leela James, whose latest single, “Complicated,” is in heavy rotation.

The 10th Annual Greater Cleveland Urban Film Festival goes hybrid this year, with theater and virtual screenings, as well as an old-school double feature at the Mayfield Drive-In!  The festival kicks off Thursday, September 9 at the Breen Center for the Performing Arts in Ohio City with an in-person interview with actor Michael Jai White (“Black Dynamite,” “Spawn,” “Arrow”). The remaining 60 films will screen at the Atlas Shaker Square Cinema. This year’s theme is “Celebrating Black.” Individual screening tickets are $10; festival passes range from $25-$100.

Tri-C Jazz Fest – September 11, 12

The 42nd Tri-C Jazz Fest returns to an in-person format September 11-12 at Cain Park, 14591 Superior Road (44118) in Cleveland Heights.  The lineup includes the Spanish Harlem Orchestra, trumpeters Marquis Hill and Bria Skonberg; the Emmet Cohen Trio, The Christian Sands Trio; A Moment in Cleveland featuring Dominick Farinacci, vocalist Evelyn Wright, Ernie Krivda (saxophone), Steve Enos (trumpet), Lafayette Carthon (piano), Jerome Jennings (drums), Jamey Haddad (percussion), Joe Hunter (piano), Evelyn Wright (vocals), Walter Barnes (electric bass), Gabe Jones (drums), Chris Coles (saxophone), Jackie Warren (piano), Bryan Thomas (upright bass) and Orlando Watson (spoken word) – and many more! Reserved passes range from $50-$100; lawn passes are $35.

‘Private Lives’ Exhibition at Cleveland Museum of Art – Through September 15

Take advantage of free Wednesday admission to the Cleveland Museum of Art exhibit “Private Lives: Home and Family in the Art of the Nabis, Paris 1889-1900” through September 15.  The exhibit features the work of Pierre Bonnard, Édouard Vuillard, Maurice Denis, and Félix Vallotton, and takes a close look at their paintings, prints, and drawings of home, family, and children, or what Bonnard referred to as the small pleasures and “modest acts of life.”  Make time to drop in on the docent-led talks, Wednesdays from 2:30-4:30.

 

The 41st St. Malachi Church Run takes place Saturday, September 18.

41st St. Malachi Church Run – September 18

Hosted by Fox 8’s Kenny Crumpton, this annual fundraising event celebrating 41 years is more than an all-ages 2-mile community run. The St. Malachi Church Run  is a cornucopia of happenings including Mass, Irish entertainment, creative costumes and more.  The race begins at 9:15AM near the church on the Detroit Avenue Bridge.  Registration fees range from $35-$100.   The Post-race celebration, sponsored by Great Lakes Brewing Company, takes place at McCarthy’s in the Flats. There will also be a free pre-run takes place Friday night, September 17, sponsored by Run Wild CLE.
