‘Emotion*Color*Energy’ exhibit at Beachwood Community Center – September 10 - October 4
On exhibit currently at the Beachwood Community Center, 25325 Fairmount Boulevard [44122], is “Emotion*Color*Energy,” featuring the works of Vera Bonacci, Clare Katz, Mikel Mahoney and Taylor Woolwine. An opening reception with the artists takes place Friday, September 10 from 6-8p. The exhibit will remain on view through Monday, October 4. For additional information, please call 216-292-1911.

Steam in the Valley – September 10-12, 17-19
The Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad announces the return of “Steam in the Valley,” a partnership with the Fort Wayne Historical Railroad Society that offers passengers a 2 ½ hour ride as the train is led by the Nickel Plate Road Steam Locomotive No.765, a 404-ton mechanical marvel. The train can be boarded at the Rockside Road and Akron locations. Special night rides take place September 11 and 18. Tickets range from $25-$65, depending on seating class.
5th Annual Grandparents Family Day Resource Fair – September 11
The 5th Annual Grandparents Family Day & Resource Fair takes place Saturday, September 11 from 11a-5p at the Luke Easter Park Family Pavilion area, 3090 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. [44104]. The event recognizes the contributions and support of grandparents within the family structure.
Highlights include the Pastors & Police Brunch; a faith-based Gospel Program with host Rev. Brenda Abrams and Bishop Eugene Ward, along with the Fleshman Singers, Rev. Chris Scott & the Mighty Golden Echoes, national recording artist Carlton Fellows and others; a Seniors Luncheon; food trucks; representatives from a variety of community service organizations; a Kidz Pavilion offering a variety of activities for children; the Louis & Carl Stokes Legacy Legends “All-Star” Jam Session and much more!
Free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair for their personal comfort.

Cleveland Museum of Art Chalk Festival – September 11
The annual talent showcase — open to children and adults — the Cleveland Museum of Art Chalk Festival takes place Saturday, September 11 from noon-5p in the Fine Arts Garden on the Museum grounds. The festival pays homage to a Renaissance tradition from 16th-century Italy in which beggars copied paintings of the Madonna by Raphael and his contemporaries using chalk on the plazas outside cathedrals.
This year’s featured chalk artists are Anna Arnold, Bruno Casiano, Wendy Mahon and Jerome White. Purchase a Square and 12-color box of chalk for $10. Drop-in registration. No reservations will be taken. Parking in the CMA garage: nonmembers $12; members $6.

Comedian Earthquake at Cleveland Improv – September 17-19
Comedian/actor Earthquake (real name Nathaniel Martin Stroman) comes to the Cleveland Improv in the Flats – 1148 Main Avenue [44113] for five performances Friday, September 17 – Sunday, September 19. Stroman has a recurring role as Que on the CBS sitcom “The Neighborhood,” starring Cedric the Entertainer, Tichina Arnold and Max Greenfield. Note: The September 18 performances are already sold out. Tickets are $30-$40 and are still available for the 6:30 & 10p shows September 17, and the September 19 performance at 6:30p.
