Hispanic Heritage Month – Through October 15

The Cleveland Public Library has organized a series of events at various branches around town to celebrate the rich history, culture, and contributions of Hispanic Americans during Hispanic Heritage Month, which continues through October 15. “Everyone is welcome at the People’s University. We believe the best way to understand each other is to experience other cultures,” said Twyla Turner, Director of Inclusion & Leadership Education at Cleveland Public Library. “We invite all Clevelanders to visit the library or join us online for a month of cultural appreciation.”

 

The Cleveland Cinematheque is screening seven entries from the 2021 Sundance Film Festival Shorts Program this weekend.

Cleveland Cinematheque: 2021 Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour – September 17, 18

The Cleveland Cinematheque presents seven shorts from the 2021 Sundance Film Festival for two screenings Friday, September 17 at 9:20PM and Saturday, September 18 at 7:20PM.  Admission is $12 for members, CIA & CSU I.D. holders; $9 for those age 25 & under. No passes or twofers.

The Sundance Film Festival, nearing its 40th anniversary, is one of the premier events in the film world.

The Cleveland Cinematheque is located within the Cleveland Institute of Art, 11610 Euclid Avenue (44106). Free parking is available in Lot 73 and the annex lot. (Both are off E. 117th St. south of Euclid Ave.) Entrance to the building is through Entrance C, off Lot 73, and Entrance A, on E. 116th St.

 

Cleveland Public Theatre’s annual fundraising extravaganza, “Pandemonium,” takes place Saturday, September 18.

Cleveland Public Theatre’s ‘PANDEMONIUM 2021’ – September 18

Pandemonium, the Cleveland Public Theatre’s annual arts extravaganza/fundraiser returns Saturday, September 18 to the theater grounds, located at 6415 Detroit Avenue (44102). This year’s theme is “The Break of Dawn,” and 80% of the scheduled performances will take place outside.  All food and beverage service will be outdoors, under tent canopies. Tickets are $180 and are all-inclusive, featuring fabulous local food, free valet, and complimentary drinks served all night long. A feast for the eyes, mind, appetite, and imagination. Proceeds benefit CPT’s groundbreaking artistic work and life-changing education programs.  This is a rain-or-shine event.

The 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards – September 19

Comedian/actor/producer Cedric the Entertainer will host the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards LIVE Sunday, September 19 at 8PM ET. For the past three seasons, Cedric has played Calvin Butler on the hit CBS sitcom “The Neighborhood,” which also stars Tichina Arnold (“Everybody Hates Chris,” “Martin”), Max Greenfield (“New Girl”) and Beth Behrs (“2 Broke Girls”).  This year’s telecast resumes the live, in-person format, broadcasting from the Microsoft Theatre with a limited audience of nominees and their guests.

Centennial Soiree Series – September 24

As part of its 100th anniversary celebration, the Cleveland Museum of Natural History, 1 Wade Oval Drive (44106), has organized a series of themed dinner/wine events.  The latest in the series, “Biodiversity: An array of Taste,” takes place Friday, September 24 from 6:30-10PM.  Guests will enjoy a new four-course dinner and wine pairing in the Museum’s courtyard.  Garrett Ormiston of the Museum's Natural Areas Division and curators Dr. Gavin Svenson, Dr. Nicole Gunter, and Dr. Andy Jones will lead a conversation about the importance of species diversity to the health of our planet and highlight the Museum’s work in conservation and special projects. Tickets are $150; admission includes parking.
