Psychiatrist to talk about structural racism's impact on mental healthcare.

Talk is part of University’s ongoing “Power of Diversity’ series

Cheryl D. Wills, M.D., DFAPA, an associate professor of psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University, and the Director of Child and Adolescent Forensic Psychiatric Services at University Hospitals of Cleveland, will speak on the connection between racism and mental health next Thursday, November 4 at 4:30p.

The program will take place at the University’s Tinkham Veale University Center, 11038 Bellflower Dr [44106].

Dr. Wills serves on the American Psychiatric Association Board of Trustees and chaired its APA Presidential Task Force on Structural Racism. She has coauthored treatment guidelines with the APA Guideline Writing Group and teaches locally and nationally on matters pertaining to mental health and law. She has served as consultant to healthcare professionals, businesses, attorneys, medical boards, and legislators.

Statewide Latino Affairs Summit offering several sessions on health topics

The Latino Affairs Summit taking place November 10, 2021, from 9a-5p is offering attendees several breakout sessions on its health track. Among the topics covered:

  • Mental Health - Children and Students During the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • The Impact of the Opioid Crisis in the Latino Community
  • The Impact of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Ohio's Hispanic/Latinx Communities
  • Vaccines - How to Decrease Hesitancy in the Latino Community

Summit attendees can pick and select sessions throughout the day in three tracks: Health, Education and Business/Workforce Development.  Individualized Webex links will grant access to the different tracks. A detailed electronic program should be available soon for registrants.
