February 14, 1939 - February 13, 2024
Kenneth Lorenzo Marshall was born in Cleveland, Ohio on February 14, 1939, to James and Elizabeth Marshall. After completing his formal education, Kenneth enlisted in the US Marines, serving for three years.
Kenneth was a model of consistency. He was married for 55 years. He retired from the City of Cleveland in 2000 after 25 years of service as a heavy-duty mechanic. He enjoyed his retirement to the fullest; it lasted almost as long as his career with the city. He died February 13, 2024.
Kenneth was known as a man of wisdom, discipline, and order. He was stern, firm but loving and supportive. He was keen on managing his money. He would say on the regular, “if you make a dime save a nickel”.
Kenneth had a deep love of family. He and his wife Gwendolyn shared four children: Tyrone, Tamina, Tonya, and Ken. He also was responsible for the care of his nieces Linda, Darlene, and Rosalyn after the loss of their mother. He was integral in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
A man of faith, Kenneth loved going to church. He spent time reading and studying the Bible. He had a strong prayer life and would often share his knowledge of the gospel with family and friends. He served on the Usher Board and the Board of Trustees, the Usher Board, and the transportation ministry at Open Door Missionary Baptist Church for more than a decade.
He was stylish and loved to dress. He enjoyed being surrounded by beautiful things, often seen working in the yard, or taking a road trip to see family for reunions and gatherings. He was a self-taught handyman who fixed his properties, buses, and cars. He was an excellent craftsman with wood. Kenneth showed love for his African heritage by collecting African art, clothing, and artifacts.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tyrone, sisters Hazel Clark and Lois Shuford, and brothers Herbert and William.
Kenneth is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn, daughters Tamina (Michael) Gabriel and Tonya McCoy; his son, Ken (Michelle) Marshall, granddaughters Territa (Terry) Chambers, Ciara Sanford, and Trene McCoy; his grandson Carter Marshall, five great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives, and friends.
The funeral service will be held on February 24, 2024 at 10:30a at Open Door Missionary Baptist Church, 8215 Woodland Ave. [44104]. A wake will begin at 10a.
Arrangements were entrusted to Calhoun Funeral Home.
