Greetings!

COVID-19’s chameleon qualities suggest that it may continue to dwell among us for some time. We will have to adapt as it does, meaning that it’s important to develop new coping habits, kind of like learning to look both ways before you cross the street. The Minority Health Alliance is offering a webinar tonight from 6-7p EDT that can help you understand how to access reliable sources of info, learn to manage the impacts of a long-term COVID diagnosis, and figure out how to navigate a new normal. Presenters include Dr. Charles Modlin of MetroHealth System and Dr. Oge Ezimakor, a psychiatrist who is also with MetroHealth. Register here.

In the news:

  • Gov. DeWine yesterday signed into law a bill that does away with training and permitting requirements for those who wish to carry concealed weapons. The self-proclaimed law and order party did the bidding of the gun lobby over the opposition of most law enforcement officials. Read about it here.
  • A federal judge in Akron has gotten around to asking some obvious questions in the House Bill 6 scandal that continues to steal taxpayers’ money while it jeopardizes the environment and assaults our health. The court wants to know who from FirstEnergy paid the millions in bribes that went to fund what is the largest scandal in Ohio history. This article gives a succinct summary of HB 6 shenanigans, which are complex on what level, but simple theft on another.
  • Top Cavaliers brass are visiting Central State University today as part of the team’s new partnership with Ohio’s HBCUs. After spending most of the day at rebounding Central State, the Cavs execs will also stop in at Wilberforce University. Check out our report here.
  • HEALTH and EDUCATION WEDNESDAY is a concept that has long been on our mind in terms of organizing our reporting. Tomorrow you will have a chance to see what that looks like, as we roll out several pieces in our Health Section. But one health-related piece appears in today’s Business Section: a report on how some health firms, pushed to confront racism, are now investing in black health care start-ups. Get the details here.

As always, stay safe and thanks for reading The Real Deal Press!
