Greetings!

Our patience is being tried, folks. So is our common sense and our notion of community. Plain 'ol COVID-19 was bad enough. And the delta and omicron variants are no joke. But we have the science to defeat them. Get vaxxed, socially distance, wear your mask over your nose as well as your mouth. Venture out selectively. Respect others. Stay the course.

On another front, it's fascinating to see the excitement building over the incoming Bibb administration. It seems to some degree that all of the resignation that was built up over four terms of "It is what is is" has us ready to burst. But we need to remember what Mayor-elect Bibb himself has acknowledged more than once. He's going to make some mistakes. Let's cut him some slack at the start even as we maintain high hopes for our city and a true comeback based on a new way of doing things versus some 'Mad Men' slogan.

Bibb announced his first four cabinet picks today: law director, human resources, communications, government affairs. Read about them here. We think it's a solid quartet and an excellent start. See who he picked here.

Elsewhere, we expounded today on what seemed at first blush an ordinary report. A former Browns head coach who had returned to the college ranks got a new job. But, as sometimes happens, the real story wasn't about him at all. Check it out here.

Next week, the Ohio Supreme Court will hear arguments in two cases challenging the gosh-awful Congressional districts drawn once again in secrecy by people who don't give a damn about your right to vote. Read about the hearing and find the link to watch here.

We encourage you to read this farewell to bell hooks, who made an indelible impression on so many of us with the power of her intellect and her devotion to our liberation.

Finally for today, we have no inside info, but we continue to believe there will be a Build Back Better bill that Manchin will agree to. Now Sinema is another matter.

As always, thanks for reading!
