Long-tenured Cleveland schoolteacher was avid bowler

Harriet Banks, who taught for several decades in Cleveland’s public schools, died March 20, 2021. She was 88.

Harriet and her husband were featured on WKYC/TV3 earlier this month in a touching tribute from their daughter, Stacie.

Known as the Purple Lady because, of course, it was her favorite color, Harriet and her husband were married on Valentine's Day in 1954 at Antioch Baptist Church.

She was a Cleveland public school teacher for many decades and an avid bowler.

She leaves to mourn her husband of 67 years, Colonel Robert C. Banks, Sr.; three children, Stacie Banks Hall (William); Crystal L. Banks, and Robert C. Banks, Jr.; five grandchildren, Jasmine Louise Hall Turner (Andre), Krystle Harriet Blossom Hall Thomas (Wayne, Jr.), William N. Hall, III; Christopher Robert Banks, Sr. (Chamaneik) and Rian Christian Banks;  and nine great-grandchildren. Another granddaughter, Amber Cryslynn Hall, predeceased her.

A private celebration of her life was held earlier today, prior to interment at Lake View Cemetery 12316 Euclid Ave [44106].

The family suggests donations to The Harriet R. Banks Scholarship for underserved students. For information, contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
