Ohio Auditor Keith Faber is running for Ohio Attorney General.
Faber, a 59-year-old Republican, is the first candidate to throw his hat in the ring for the state’s top law enforcement officer. Ohio Attorney General will be on the November 2026 ballot, along with many other state offices.
“I’ve loved being state auditor,” Faber said in a video announcement posted Monday morning. “You’re catching people lying, stealing and cheating with government money, and you’re putting people in prison who are literally trying to take advantage of the public. The Attorney General’s Office is just a bigger stage. You get to do justice for Ohioans at a much bigger level.”
Faber has had a long history in Ohio politics — previously serving as a state representative and a state senator, including Ohio Senate President from 2013 to 2016. He became Ohio Auditor in 2019 and was reelected in 2022, making him term-limited as auditor. He was also on the Ohio Redistricting Commission.
“My office will do all it can to aid local and federal law enforcement, protect victims’ rights, and keep our communities safe,” Faber said in a statement. “We will efficiently and effectively use the Bureau of Criminal Investigations and other tools within the AG’s office to better support our law enforcement and protect Ohioans.”
In Faber’s video announcement, he boasts that he has support from law enforcement across Ohio.
“Law enforcement supports Keith Faber because Keith Faber supports law enforcement,” Delaware County Sheriff Jeffrey Balzer said in the video.
“They have to have integrity,” Delaware County Prosecutor Melissa Schiffel said. “They also have to have guts and Keith Faber has those qualities.”
Faber was preceded as state auditor by current Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who is also term-limited.
Yost recently announced he is running for Ohio governor in what is expected to be a tight GOP primary. Former Republican Presidential Candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and Ohio Treasurer Robert Sprague are both expected to run for governor.
Democrat Amy Acton is also running for Ohio governor.
